An update - Got my camera back from Panasonic yesterday. Wow looks like they did manage to get the camera to Japan (so they say) and back within 3 weeks. The lens ring on the body was replaced and now the lens fits more snugly. There is however still some "free play" but the play is less and it feels tighter. Is this the best Panasonic can do? Well I'll just have to use it to see if the little free play that remains actually gets picked up on the mic during video recording (at extreme zooms). So far I am happy but not 100% since the free play is there. Perhaps this is a design issue?

Panasonic has finalled called back just about a week or so ago and requested I send the camera back to them so that they could have it sent back to Japan. Let's see what happens when I get the camera back. For now...I'm cameraless for 3-4 weeks (as they have mentioned) but somehow I think it'll take longer. Let's wait and see...

It's already 17 December... and Panasonic Malaysia has still yet to hear from Panasonic Japan. Personally, I think they're just avoiding the issue and replacement. Surely they must know about this inherent problem in the body & lens...
