Our trip to Penang during the weekend brought us up to the Penang World Music Festival 2008 held at the Botanical Gardens. The tickets were RM50.00 each and it was a wonderful experience to be there to listen to world class performers beating, blowing and singing out their tunes.
We were there for the performances on the 3 May but we did not manage to stay right till the end as we were tired, exhausted and hot after a long hot day moving around Penang.
The most memorable performances that caught my attention was a Hindi like group which has a women spinning round and round on the spot for the entire duration of the performance, which was like for a good 5 minutes. She then walked away without looking tipsy at all! I also enjoyed the Irish performers which belted out some nice irish tunes on their violins and flutes. The last performance I managed to catch before we headed off was by a Canadian group from Montreal singing in Canadian French more of acapella style. Their voices were harmoneous and soothing and they were an all women group except for a guy who was creating the tunes and rhythm just by using some simple tools and his feet.

All in all it was a great outing. I now have a feel of what its like at the Rainforest Music Festival held in Sarawak. This was probably a preview of whatever happens over there! Don’t think I’ll be making a trip over there soon so this will have to do for now. Am already happy as a fiddle.
For more details on the festival which you might want to attend next year, you can check it out at http://www.penangworldmusicfestival.com/

An issue I have been having lately with the introduction and installation of the Wordpress 2.5 is a problem with the Media Upload function. This problem is not exactly linked to the type of browser used (IE or Firefox.. though probable) but rather due to a Web Hosting server setting. In order to get everything working as per normal, I had to (change some of the scripts so that it works for IE) more importantly have the following line of codes inserted to the .htaccess file in the root folder of my the wordpress installation.
<IfModule mod_security.c>
<Files async-upload.php>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</Files>
</IfModule>
Once the above lines were inserted, my error of “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later” was instantly resolved. I wonder how WP is going to fix this issue in their next release. Hopefully it would have more bug fixes but so far, I’m enjoying this 2.5 version. Posting has been an increased joy so far.

After having waited close to 3-4 weeks for my Local Hobby Shop to order my GWS Park Servos for me (since GWS did not want to assist by letting me order straight from them), the servos finally arrived and I managed to install them onto the plane. I now have the two halves of the fuselage glued together nicely. All that is left to do is to install the linkages to the ailerons and nose gear, screw in the full moving tail stabilizers and install the receiver and configure it on the radio. Oh of course there’s the dreaded putting on the stickers part. I don’t quite like the waterbased stickers… They are a bitch to put on!
Anyway here are some pictures which I took yesterday night with the camera on my Nokia 6300. The images have a lot of noise in them thus making them unclear. When the plane is fully complete, I’ll take some nicer shots of the F15.
For now…. I’ll hit the breaks and they’ll fly right by…

Here’s a picture of my F15 EDF jet which I hope to complete soon. Construction has been halted for almost a month as I have been waiting for my LHS to get me the needed PARK servos. I wonder how well this jet will fly. Apparently its a real floater. We shall see. Hopefully I have enough battery power to power the two electric ducted fans on the jet. You can see many pictures and videos of this jet on youtube.

As of 1 April 2008, Bank Negara decided to impose the Rounding Mechanism to make it easier for monetary transactions to take place. That means, 1 sen coins will no longer be used when dealing with over the counter transactions. How does this mechanism work? Well put simply.. 1,2,6,7 sens will be rounded DOWN and 3,4,8,9 sens will be rounded UP to the closest 5 sens.
To me it was confusing at first when hearing it over the radio because from what I was taught, 1,2,3,4 should be rounded down an 6,7,8,9 shoud be rounded up but then I realised we’re actually rounding off to the closest 5 sens, not to the closest 10 sens. I somehow forgot about the 5 sens between the 10s. Silly me.
To most people this would be “transparent”. For the last 15 days, I haven’t really encountered this matter though I’m sure it is already in place. Basically I just pay what is asked and costs gets rounded up or down automatically so much so that the end user buyer is normally not aware that this has been done. This is a good thing. I sure hope BN (Bank Negara)’s rational to round off 5 sens is good one. Only time will tell whether transactions or queues move faster without having aunties and uncles dig their purses for 1 sen coins. BTW, I go MC Dolands pretty often… and to me… this move is a blessing in disguise. I have a drawer full of 1 sen coins!
Anyway make sure you get rid of the 1 sen coins that you have with you before they become illegal tender. NO THIS IS NO APRIL FOOL’S JOKE… You may read more about this from BN’s website at http://www.bnm.gov.my/index.php?ch=209

Testing Geomapping capability on my blog. Will start off with zooming into my Flying Site at Kota Damansara. It’s interesting to see a bird’s eye view of the roads where we drive. What we think is a short cut sometimes just ain’t! Anyway this map seems to be pretty detailed however I think the Google Earth program provides a better satelite view with better zooming capability. Perhaps its because we’re talking about maps in Malaysia. Perhaps it would be better in the states. Will need to test that out! Over and out!

Recently, my posts have turn somewhat X-rated *hahaha*. The last one was about an emperor caught with his pants down and now this one is a picture of the cutest POLE DANCER I’ve ever seen! You’ve got to agree with me on this one.
Enjoy the picture!

Have you ever wonder what it would look like if you caught a high official with his pants down? Well good news for you. If you want to see how an emperor or a high official looks like with his pants down, all you have to do is either;
1) Press <CTRL> <A> on your keyboard;
or
2) Use your mouse and block the image below
 Once you have done that… pay special attention to his ankles area.

I’ve never been into politics simply because I have no interest and its not my kind of game. Having said that, this is actually the first year I will be exercising my voting right as a Malaysian citizen. I managed to register myself at the LCCT as I was headed out on a holiday trip. Seeing a make shift desk at the airport, my then gf, and now wife suggested that I register myself, which I duly did.
Government, politics & etc… call me naive but I was never really concerned with it all until recently. I managed to learn more of what’s happening by reading the papers and watching the news. Plus seeing the American polls on CNN made it all the more interesting to follow. I did a search for “voting in Malaysia” in google and ended up at some interesting sites. If you want to know a summarised version of what the voting process is like in Malaysia, I recommend visiting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_Malaysia . Its a pretty good read and should give you a rough idea of what’s the electoral process is like.
HAPPY VOTING!!!

The Radio Control model forum which used to be hosted here at OPP has now been moved to its very own domain since it was a little off topic in this domain. I have decided that Ourplaypen.com will purely be a personal website.
The dedicated website for the Radio Control Forum & Gallery has been moved to its very own home at http://www.rcbuddies.com. Its about time the Forum had its own home and I’m glad to inform all members and visitors of the successful migration of all membership and forum postings to the new hosting as of yesterday (12 Feb 2008)
If you are a Malaysian Radio Control fan, do become an RC Buddy and visit us at http://www.rcbuddies.com! Is that a cool and easy to remember name or what!? I’m surprised the domain was still available for registration.
